10 Top Places to Eat in Puerto Princesa: Haim Chicken Inato

Haim Chicken Inato
A colorful billboard of the restaurant that welcomes you at the entrance

It is located along Manalo Extension, Puerto Princesa, a few meters away from Purple Fountain Pension Inn, where we stayed for 3 days. This establishment has been running this business since 1999. Their specialty is apparently their version of chicken barbeque from the famous inasal of Bacolod. No wonder why inasal restaurants have been booming in the country. By the way, the web definition of the word ‘inasal’ or ‘asado’ is used both for techniques and the social gathering of barbeque in some countries like Uruguay, Peru, Paraguay, Colombia, Chile, Argentina, and Brazil. In the Philippines, using a Bisayan translation, that particular word means the whole meat of chicken, cow, pig, etc, is being roasted or cooked using barbeque techniques. The restaurant is open at 8:45 am till 10 pm daily.

The place is huge and has function room that can accommodate group orders from various events like birthday, wedding, and the like.
Bigger cottages with some tables inside

Space is not a problem. Couples can enjoy this spot exclusively for them.

What’s nice about the ambiance is it’s relaxing atmosphere. Each table is housed with a homey cottage with colourful paintings hanging from the ceiling. The food is reasonable and the serving is just right per person. The staff is efficient. They attend to your needs immediately.
Chopsuey (mixed vegetables) good for 3 servings (P 180)

Chicken inato with achara (side dish), sauce and one serving of rice (P 90)

For a wide selection of meals, here is the restaurant's complete menu.

Mode of payment: accepts cash only
Note: With additional 5% service charge.

Accommodation in Puerto Princesa

Looking for accommodation in Puerto Princesa, Palawan?
Here are some of the accommodation I checked-in during my trip in the city. I hope this blog will help you find one without slashing your pocket.

Purple Fountain Courtyard Inn
One thing I was so excited about this tour was the to see this elegant 10-room inn up close and personal. I actually saw the photos from the website before. To stay and use their amenities, however, was such an unforgettable experience.
There really is a purple fountain at the garden
I love the interior- the perfect combination of hues, the lines and curves make the rooms more comfy and relaxing. Furnishings and other canvas with various sizes create a well-balanced arrangement or embellishment in and out of the room.
A veranda in front of each room

Symmetry and harmony were the important aspects of this remarkable work of art shown in this quaint yet elegant haven for tourists.
Everywhere you gaze is a work of art
In addition, amenities never made us disappointed. They were all new and clean. Purple Fountain Inn put its guests into another level of experience from this one-of-a-kind accommodation.
People were so accommodating. The staffs in the receiving area helped us find and reserve our dinner in Kalui, which you cannot do from other hotels.

Set breakfast is often served as early as 6:00 in the morning.
This inn offers 2 kinds of meals: American style and Filipino breakfast (both options can have either a cup of hot coffee (3-in-1 or instant) or hot chocolate
Our lovely mothers having early breakfast at the porch

One Steamed rice, scrambled or sunny side-up egg, tocino
or sweetened fried pork (top)and 2 pcs of skinless longganisa (local sausage) below

Amerson Pension Place
You can also see this signage at the corner of Tiniguiban, along North Nat'l Highway
This 2-story pension inn was only built a few months ago It is located along Tiniguiban, a few distant away from North Nat’l Highway. Landbank and 168 Mall are the nearest landmarks of its location. Amerson Pension Place can be reached by car from Puerto Princesa International Airport for 15 minutes and a 2-min ride on a tricycle or on foot from the city’s bus terminal.
The way to the receiving area
It is very accessible to several establishments such as Kain Inato, the nearest restaurant to Amerson that only takes a couple of minutes on foot. Another one is Robinson’s Place, which is considered as the largest shopping mall in the city of Puerto Princesa, only one ride either on a tricycle or a multicab (a small public utility vehicle that carries a total of 18 passengers).
Some rooms on the second floor
Fare:
From bus terminal to Amerson via tricycle: P8/person
From Amerson to Robinson’s Place via
tricycle: P10/person
multicab: P8/person
Standard double occupany

Not bad for a standard room
Amerson is a perfect accommodation for people who are on a budget in Puerto Princesa. In fact, it had been my second time in the city, but I never had any regrets of staying in a mediocre accommodation. Most of them were clean and had a good service from its staff, and Amerson was one of them.
The entire place was well-maintained and most of it furnishing were still new. Luis, the staff at the reception slash the son of the owner, helped us from the time we stayed in PPS until we came back from a trip in El Nido.
In spite of the zero visibility of security guards in the area, they made it sure that the whole place is monitored by the CCTV cameras round the clock mostly affixed at the entrance, at the receiving area, and the dining area. Each room is equipped with well-functioning air conditioner, TV with several cable channels, and wifi connection free of charge. The breakfast was being served at the dining area on the ground floor, near the reception area.
The dining area and the kitchen
You can actually request what breakfast you want to have the next day. On the whole, they serve Filipino’s typical breakfast like rice with a selection of viands such as longganisa (local sausage), hotdog, tocino (sweet pork), and scrambled or sunny-side-up egg with beverage of your choice such as hot choco, instant or 3-in-1 (coffee on sachet with creamer and sugar) coffee, or hot tea. If you don’t prefer rice for breakfast, you can have the toast and egg or hotdog with the same choices of beverage.
Tocino (sweetened fried pork) & Sunny-side-up egg with steamed rice

Longganisa (local sausage) & Sunny-side-up egg with steamed rice

French toast & scrambled egg

Coffee with cream

Hot tea
What I love about this inn was the airport transfer they provide for their guests without any extra charges. In addition, I was supposed to use their room at 1pm, but Luis allowed me to check-in as early as 9am.
Complimentary van transfer
Since there was nothing to do that morning, I decided to stay at The Island Coffee Store in Robinson’s Place, and took time to write about some of my pending blogs.

Jilian Tourist Inn
The entrance to Jilian Tourist Inn
Welcoming you by the staffs was quite special and your name is shown on the lcd monitor found at the receiving area.
A very personalized way of welcoming their guests

Jilian's reception area

It seems that this accommodation is small but if you'll
look at it on a different angle, the place is quite huge.
The size of the beds are wide and the space of this family room can even accommodate up to 6 people. The linens and the towels are free of stain while the pillows and the mattress are firm and comfy. Also, they have more space on the counter top where you can put your valuables, but the table was small for 4 persons.

Personally, one thing they should improve is their toilet. There was a stinky smell coming out probably form the toilet seat or the sink pipe. We were able to call the attention of the utility and did something for this problem, but after a while, the smell came out again. During the entire stay, we just had to bear the annoying smell and left this hotel and this problem unresolved.

10 Top Places to Eat in Puerto Princesa: Ka Inato

Kain Inato’s name has been so pre-eminent in the food industry in Puerto Princesa. Presence of the patrons is unstoppable that almost packed the huge size of the restaurant most of the time.
What I noticed about the commercial establishments in PPS, specifically the restaurants, is the design they invest for their interior as well as the way they garnish their food. Initially, it seemed that Ka Inato would be as similar as Haim Inato located along Manalo Extension, but I was actually wrong.
The air comes freely in the entire place

Most furnishings are made up of wooden material
Kain Inato is very distinct in the design they use for the whole place. Basically, you can see wooden sculpture depicting the ethnic group of Palawan, painted in various neon hues.
In addition, it is built where the air flows freely from outside to each corner of the restaurant. So one should not expect to have an area with air-conditioner.

It was my first to see a restaurant with some waiters who use sign language as a form of their communication due to hearing impairment, and Kain Inato gives them a vital role in their business.
Ka Inato chicken fried for only P 65.00

Sizzling crocodile - a bit pricey (P 320) but must-try in Ka Inato.

Our lunch was not complete without some desserts: Mango graham cake for only P 48

Leche Flan - a bit small for its price (P 35)

Just on time from an exhausting and hot day- Banana Split
Very cheap (P 70) with 3 scoops of ice crem

Here's the complete copy of their menu

Mode of payment: accepts cash only
Note: With additional 10% service charge.
